For International Students
You must be a current student registered at another University and have completed at least two semesters (one full year) of college/university. You must continue to assume this status throughout the duration of the Global Science Summer Programme.

There are no formal prerequisites for the courses. Students are expected to have some basic preferred knowledge and / or strong interest in the area chosen. As all courses will be taught and assessed in English, students should be proficient in the English language. Students from non-partner and non-English medium universities1 must meet the requirements stated below and provide proof of their English proficiency.

For NUS Students
NUS students should refer to the respective courses for information on prerequisites and preclusions.
Courses will be offered to suitable applicants on a first-come-first-served basis until vacancies are filled.

Application Process

Application opens 2 February 2026.

All applicants are required to pay an application fee of S$109 in their application submission. The application will only be processed after the fee is paid.

Please ensure that all documents listed below are ready in softcopy before submitting the application.

For non-NUS students:

  1. Passport showing your particulars, and must be valid until the completion of studies at NUS (for non-Singapore Citizens)
  2. Original copy of Official Academic Transcript(s) with grade legend issued by the Home University. The transcript must be endorsed with the university’s seal, official signatory and/or a verifiable link.
  3. Record of courses taken in the current semester/term
  4. Course syllabus for equivalent courses that are pre-requisites to NUS courses (both completed and current courses)
  5. Student status letter from Home University that must:
    – Show an active student enrolment
    – Show an expected graduate date/month/year that is after the completion of studies at NUS
    – Be printed on the university’s letterhead.
  6. Copy of a valid TOEFL/IELTS test scores – For applicants who are from non-English medium universities.

For NUS students:

How to Apply?

International students are not required to apply for a Student’s Pass (visa) to enter Singapore for their participation in GSSP.

However, if you hold a travel document issued by one of the countries or places listed on ICA’s website, you will require a valid Singapore entry visa to travel to, and seek entry, into Singapore. Please apply for it online here.

GSSP on-campus housing is provided for participants at PGP Residence (PGPR). Nestled in a valley near the Kent Ridge MRT station, PGPR beckons to all students who wish to live in a condominium-like hostel with air-conditioned rooms, lounges, study rooms, music rooms as well as sports facilities such as badminton, basketball, tennis courts and a gym. On-campus housing application is administered directly by GSSP and is seperate from the housing application administered by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). Our on-campus housing application will be opened to students once enrolment is confirmed in May 2026.

Course Matters

If I do not have the basic knowledge for the course, can I still apply?
Yes. After application, we will assess your suitability to take the course.

I am from an English medium institution. Do I need to submit proof of my English language proficiency?
No, you are not required to submit proof of your English language proficiency.

I am from a non-English medium institution. Do I need to submit proof of my English language proficiency? What are the requirements for Test of English as a Foreign Language [TOEFL] or the International English Language Testing System [IELTS]?
If you are from a non-English medium institution and not from NUS Partner Universities, you are required to submit proof of your English language proficiency. As all courses will be taught and assessed in English, students should be proficient in the English language. Students must meet the requirements stated below and provide proof of their English proficiency.

What are the available modes of payment for the application and course fee?
Payments can be made with credit card via Visa, MasterCard and Amex. For students with a Singapore bank account, you may pay using PayNow QR.

Can I change the course(s) which I have registered for?
Please write in to SCI UG Queries (NUS students) or scisap@nus.edu.sg (international students) to request for a change in course(s). All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and subject to availability, before the Global Science Summer Programme starts.

Can I drop a course I have registered for?
Yes, you may. Please notify us by writing to SCI UG Queries (NUS students) or scisap@nus.edu.sg (international students), clearly indicating the course(s) you wish to drop. Please note that you will be deemed as withdrawing from the programme if you do not enrol in any one course. Regardless of your reasons for cancellation (e.g. visa refusal), the following cancellation policy applies after registering for a course:

You will be informed of the subsequent application procedures via email.

Are there any scholarships or financial assistance for NUS students and international students who are interested in the Global Science Summer Programme?

  • NUS students: Please check the available funding schemes for special term tuition fees here.
  • International students: There are no scholarships or financial assistance for international students at the moment. International students may check with their home universities if there are any scholarships or grants to apply to for summer school programmes.

I am an international student. Do I need to apply for student visa or tourist visa on my own?

Yes, you are required to apply for an entry visa to Singapore if you are holding a passport from a visa-required country. Please note that you are required to pay the application fee for the visa as imposed by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority of Singapore.

Is on-campus accommodation compulsory?
No, it is optional for both NUS and international students. International students are to look for your own off-campus housing if you choose not to stay on-campus.

If I apply for on-campus housing, will I be guaranteed a place?
No, we are unable to guarantee a place. We will inform you in writing whether you manage to secure on-campus housing. Please also note that on-campus housing will be given on a first-come first-served basis. As such, please ensure that you make payment as soon as possible once the application for on-campus is sent in May 2026 in order to secure your slot.

Does the accommodation cost include meal plans?

Meal plans are not available during school vacation and summer programmes. The campus offers various dining options. Please refer to https://uci.nus.edu.sg/oca/retail-dining/food-and-beverages/.

Deciding to sign up for GSSP was probably the best decision I've made. Who would've thought that 6 weeks is enough to make so many new friends? Really reminds me of Locard's principle of exchange, where every contact leaves a trace, just like the friends we make. Hopefully we'll cherish the memories and traces we made!

I’m Tiffany, a graduate from UCLA and an incoming chemistry PhD student. I was able to take on an exchange program at NUS and attended forensic science courses with Prof. Stella! Participating in this GSSP summer program marks the end of an exciting ride for me. As some of you might know, I was in NUS last year doing an tear long exchange, (thanks Prof Stella and everyone from the lab) and I was able to continue such amazing experience during my time spent here at GSSP 2019. Forensic science has always been one of my goals in life, well to become a forensic pathologist. And thanks to NUS, I’m able to get the opportunities to real get a taste of FS. Throughout the two weeks course, I was not able to indulge myself in the field that I’m genuinely passionate about, both in and out of classroom. To me, two weeks is never enough to finish learning everything in forensic science, however, it does construct a rigid starting point for all of us, to dive into the field of toxicology as well as planning for our future career. Last but not least, I want to give thanks to the Profs and TAs who have made this summer course possible. It’s really been my great pleasure and a blessing to be part of this program.:)

I couldn't have asked for a better first encounter with forensic science than SP4263. It was thoroughly enjoyable and manageable, thanks to the wonderfully supportive academic team of professors and teaching assistants. The programme was so well-structured, with various programmes ranging from virtual reality crime scene investigation to a moot court.

SP4263 is an inter-disciplinary course that was really eye-opening to me. We learnt about toxicokinetics, therapeutic and illicit drugs, how to identify and quantify toxicants, and finally, being an expert witness in court. Although learning all these topics in a short timeframe was challenging, everyone was very supportive of each other and shared their ideas and knowledge.

The Forensic Science summer programme on criminalistics had been an intellectually stimulating and fun-filled experience! Taking on the role of a criminalist, we saw for ourselves how various analytical techniques such as Raman Spectroscopy are instrumental in uncovering adulterated substances and forgery in gems. The knowledge and skills gained in the summer programme are indispensable. Thanks to the Professors and teaching assistants for the meticulous and well-planned programme!

A 3 weeks intensive course on Biotechnology and Biotherapeutics really taught me a lot about this exciting and up and coming industry. The topics and content covered were really interesting to learn about especially amongst COVID times.
