University Awards (2026) Recipients
Congratulations to our scientists who received the University Awards (2026), which honour members of the NUS community who set new benchmarks in education, research and service. We are proud to celebrate the achievements of Prof Liu Xiaogang from the Department of Chemistry and Asst Prof Liu Boxiang from the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences for receiving awards for excellence in mentorship and research, respectively.

Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award (2026)
Prof Liu Xiaogang is recognised as a world-leading scientist for his work in the optical manipulation of photon conversion in nanocrystals and their applications in X-ray and light-field imaging. He is also a dedicated mentor who has inspired generations of young researchers to achieve excellence. Under his guidance, his students achieved accolades such as the National Ten Thousand Talents Programme of China. Many of his mentees hold academic positions in prestigious institutes in Singapore and beyond, and others are key contributors in industry. Read the citation here.

Young Researcher Award (2026)
Asst Prof Liu Boxiang’s research sits at the intersection of genomics and artificial intelligence. He uses a combination of population-scale genomic big data, machine learning and high-throughput technologies to identify DNA that influences people’s risk to complex diseases. Working at the frontier of genomic medicine, his work contributes to precision therapies that correct RNA-splicing errors linked to complex autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. He is recognised internationally for his pioneering contributions which have earned him numerous prestigious accolades. Read the citation here.
