December 04, 2020

‘Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire.’ –W.B. Yeats

Associate Professor Ho Han Kiat lives and breathes this philosophy. Han Kiat has the exceptional talent of being able to ignite students’ passion to learn through his mesmerising lectures, where he weaves in concepts and applications seamlessly. He also constantly and creatively adapts pedagogies to students’ evolving needs.

Beyond teaching, Han Kiat demonstrates outstanding leadership in education. He holds a joint appointment with the University Scholars Programme and is an elected Fellow of the NUS Teaching Academy. He had also served a term as the Vice Chair of the NUS Teaching Academy Executive Council during which he made significant contributions to shape the University’s educational policies. As Vice Dean, Office of Student Affairs, Han Kiat spearheads youth leadership development programmes that positively impact students’ intellectual and personal growth. He also oversaw curriculum changes as Deputy Head for Education in the Department of Pharmacy.

Han Kiat is a scholar, teacher and mentor who inspires staff and students alike. This evening, we are pleased to honour Associate Professor Ho Han Kiat’s significant contributions to education with the Outstanding Educator Award.
