Science meets service in healthcare

Nur Sabrina Rifqah Binte Abdul Rahman, who graduated in 2025 with a Major in Life Sciences and Minor in Statistics, aspires to contribute to healthcare advancement in Singapore.
In her first job as a Senior Executive (Research and Innovation Office) at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), which she secured before graduating, she gets to do just that – by assisting clinicians in developing and formalising research collaboration agreements. This includes working closely with external partners and internal teams throughout the negotiation process to ensure their interests are addressed while complying with institutional policies. Sabrina credits her interdisciplinary education at the College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) for preparing her well for the demands of her role. “The emphasis on both quantitative and qualitative understanding strengthened my communication and analytical skills, which are crucial when liaising with diverse stakeholders,” she says.

Her studies in Life Sciences gave her a foundation in biological knowledge, research methodologies and experimental design, while her Statistics minor sharpened her quantitative and analytical skills. As a result of her collective learnings, Sabrina is better equipped to interpret research studies, analyse data systematically and communicate effectively – skills which are highly relevant in her daily work.

Her undergraduate research projects also provided exposure to laboratory techniques, research protocols, ethics applications and data management, giving her a strong foundation in the methodical nature of scientific investigation that now directly informs her work.
“Enhancing the efficiency of our healthcare system allows me to contribute meaningfully to improving health outcomes in our community,” she says.
