Asst Prof Gloryn Chia Awarded L’Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship for Life Sciences Singapore (2021)

March 15, 2022

Asst Prof Gloryn Chia, Department of Pharmacy, was awarded the L’Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship for Life Sciences Singapore (2021) for her work on developing next-generation personalised cancer vaccines.

The overarching research focus of her laboratory is to improve the efficacy of neoantigen vaccines, with the aim of developing immunotherapies or improve existing immunotherapies for treating refractory cancers. Personalised neoantigen vaccines are emerging as a class of highly promising immunotherapy and recent clinical trials have shown promising results.

Her team seeks to identify and address current gaps that could impede clinical implementation of cancer vaccines, and establish platforms to improve personalised cancer vaccines. They are harnessing the power of genomic technologies and synthetic biology to generate a versatile and scalable ‘off-the-shelf’ source of artificial antigen-presenting cells, which allows the development of more effective cancer vaccines and immunotherapies for treating solid tumors.

Asst Prof Chia said, “I have been fortunate to have had several female mentors and great role models. Therefore, through this award, I hope to inspire other women to pursue their passion in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).”

The L’Oréal For Women in Science Fellowship for Life Sciences Singapore programme celebrates female scientific excellence and spotlights the advancements made by leading women scientists to inspire more young females to pursue careers in STEM fields.

Congratulations, Asst Prof Chia!
