The NUS Faculty of Science, in consultation with the Ministry of Education (MOE), has developed a series of short modules for educators. Participants will develop a lesson plan suitable for classroom or project-based teaching.
Participants will learn the working principles of several smart devices that are part of everyday life, from traffic control sensors to devices built into modern cell phones, and also emerging ones based on quantum technologies. They will learn to use sensors in smart phones, as well as apply smart device concepts to promote curiosity-driven and authentic learning of selected physics topics in the MOE curriculum (e.g. electromagnetism, waves, gravitational fields). This course will be taught by Professor Sow Chorng Haur, NUS Department of Physics.
Instructions on how to register can be found here.
Participants will learn fundamental chemistry principles important for current topics in energy and the environment, e.g. climate change, the Singapore Green Plan, green hydrogen, biofuels, and electrochemical storage and conversion. They will also learn how to conduct and lead experiments on green hydrogen from electrolysis and air/water analysis. This module is relevant to the theme of sustainability and specific topics in the MOE curriculum (e.g. electrolysis, energy from chemicals). This course will be taught by Dr Foo Maw Lin, NUS Department of Chemistry.

Participants will be introduced to data science applications in domains such as commerce, education, finance, health and services. They will also gain hands-on experience in data exploration. We will elucidate the connections between the associated analytical techniques and topics in the MOE curriculum (e.g. numerical and visual data summaries, Euclidean geometry, probability, introductory statistics). This course will be taught by Associate Professor Yap Von Bing and Dr David Chew, NUS Department of Statistics and Data Science.
