NUS Internship-As-A-Service (IAAS): The Future of Work with the Gig Economy

January 19, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

You have probably heard of the term “gig economy,” which refers to a growing trend of businesses and independent workers entering into short-term labour agreements.

In the gig economy, we often see digital platforms that connect freelancers with potential clients for short-term jobs, contracted work, or asset-sharing. It encompasses everything from private tuition to food delivery to freelance services like photography, graphic design, and IT support. Fiverr, TaskRabbit, and Handy are three well-known platforms where you can find business consultants, bloggers, social media specialists, and a variety of other freelancers.

This workshop will provide insights on what the gig economy is, why it may prove useful for you, and how you could participate in it.

New bent-toed gecko species in Timor-Leste

“We have barely scratched the surface of Timor-Leste’s biodiversity. New discoveries can have profound impacts on conservation and policy-making.”

In August 2022, we led an expedition to Timor-Leste in collaboration with Conservation International and the government of Timor-Leste. The Museum’s herpetologist, Dr CHAN Kin Onn, discovered a new species of bent-toed gecko which was named Cyrtodactylus santana, in reference to the Nino Konis Santana National Park, in which the gecko was discovered.
