Assoc Prof Koh Ming Joo named Asian Young Scientist Fellow
September 05, 2025
Associate Professor Koh Ming Joo from NUS Department of Chemistry has been named an Asian Young Scientist Fellow in recognition of his achievements in base metal-catalysed alkene/alkyne functionalisations and glycosyl radical functionalisations, which have significantly accelerated small-molecule and carbohydrate synthesis. The Fellowship aims to support his exploration in catalytic skeletal editing transformations to create new functional molecules.
The Asian Young Scientist Fellowship (AYSF) announced 12 Fellows this year comprising accomplished early-career scientists selected for their exceptional scientific contributions and potential in their respective fields.
The AYSF annually selects early-career researchers in the fundamental science disciplines of life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and computer science. Each Fellow receives USD100,000 over two years to support their research, along with benefits from participating in the AYSF annual conference, academic activities, and access to a network of young scientists across Asia and globally.
Assoc Prof Koh said, “It’s an honour to be named an AYS Fellow and represent NUS on the international stage. I believe this Fellowship will boost our efforts to develop transformative skeletal editing reactions that have the capacity to change the landscape of organic synthesis.”
