Meet our inaugural CHS cohort – Li Yingying
April 04, 2022LI Yingying “thoroughly enjoyed” physics, chemistry, mathematics and geography in her final two years at River Valley High School, which led her eventually to the College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) where she is now pursuing a Primary Major in Mathematics and 2nd Major in Geography.
Why CHS? Yingying says, “I had not decided which discipline to focus on. CHS offers an array of majors – I had the flexibility to gain exposure to various fields of interest, before I finally decided on one (or two in this case).”
And with the versatilist, integrator and deep specialist pathways, she was able to switch between a double major to a double degree (and vice versa) without much difficulty.
While she was intent on reading mathematics at CHS, geography was not part of her initial plans. It was only after her ‘A’ Levels that she discovered the spark for geography, to better understand the interactions between humans and the environment.
Her experience in the gateway module GE1101E (Geographical Journeys: Exploring World Environments) was an influencing factor. She says, “I was intrigued by the different spheres in geography and how it connects with our daily lives. Learning about our environments felt very real, and from then, I decided on geography.”
In her free time, Yingying enjoys tutoring and helping others through volunteerism. She also likes arts and craft and recently took on crocheting.
