Sharon YEO Mei Ching
Co-organiser, Mentor for Hope
Pharmacy (Class of 2020)

Sharon was part of the organising committee for Mentor for Hope, held from April to June 2020. This was a unique donation campaign in Southeast Asia supported by venture capitalists and members of the start-up community, to mentor struggling entrepreneurs and raise donations for vulnerable communities affected by COVID-19.

As co-organiser, she matched up and facilitated sessions between mentors and founders, held online events with speakers to engage and enrich them with knowledge, managed a grant from Temasek oscar@sg and supported social media marketing efforts.

The campaign rallied more than 140 leading names in the regional start-up ecosystem who pledged support to help 188 technology start-ups through virtual investor mentoring sessions and coaching classes by experts. The community-led fundraising programme raised about $30,000, or an equivalent of 30,000 meal aids for Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen.

Sharon believes that kindness and empathy help to reduce mental weariness in such trying times. She says, “Together with all our generous mentors, we hoped to be able to contribute in small ways and give positive motivation to entrepreneurs and community beneficiaries hard-hit during COVID-19.”
