With a near enough global lockdown, there is even greater dependence on pharmacists as the first point of contact to serve public healthcare needs.
Hospital pharmacy professionals like Hwa Lin continue to provide patient care during the pandemic.
Hwa Lin works closely with physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers to manage COVID-19 patients. Her roles include setting up screening centre pharmacies, ensuring sufficient medication through projection of patient numbers, writing guidelines to treat COVID-19 patients, and updating COVID-19 protocols for smooth ground processes.
Except ward rounds, she continues to perform daily clinical functions, such as medication reconciliation and medication review.
Despite her increased workload, Hwa Lin stays positive. She says, “When there was a surge in COVID-19 cases, I was touched by how everyone rallied around to help. While the uncertainty and unsettled feelings are very real, I am confident that slowly but surely, we will sail through this storm together.”
