In September 2016, Mr LEE Kiow Seng, Chief Executive Officer, Seagift Food Pte Ltd, made a gift of $300,000 to set up the NUS-Seagift Merit Scholarship for undergraduates from the Food Science and Technology programme. The scholarship will cover the full term of the student’s candidature.

Mr Lee, a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics (Class of 1972) alumnus, has also contributed generously to the Science Student Fund, which was established in 2008 to help financially needy students.

Mr Lee continues to give back to his alma mater in other ways. Seagift Food has recruited several FST graduates. It also participated in FST Industry Day in April 2016 and the Faculty’s inaugural Industry Day which was held in September 2016 in conjunction with NUS STEM Week 2016.

Building on his extensive experience in the frozen seafood business, Mr Lee founded Seagift Food Pte Ltd in 2000. Over the past decade, the company focused on developing innovative and quality frozen products to meet the emerging needs of food service and retail consumers. Seagift has established a niche in the frozen seafood business, with a focus on value-added products which are ‘ready-to-cook’.

In appreciation of the generous gift, Dean of Science Prof SHEN Zuowei hosted lunch for Mr Lee and his wife on 26 September. Also present at lunch were Prof Roger TAN, Vice Dean, Education and Special Duties; Prof ZHOU Weibiao, Director, Food Science and Technology Programme; Prof Leo TAN, Director, Special Projects; Prof CHAN Woon Khiong, Director, Alumni Relations; Susan TAN, Director of Administration; Prof Lawrence CHIA; and Dr CHAN Kai Meng, previously academic staff with the Mathematics department.
