The 5th edition of the FoS Alumni-Student Mentorship Programme was officially launched on 21 April 2026.
Since its inception in 2022 with 25 alumni mentors paired with 56 student mentees, the programme has grown significantly. This year, we are encouraged by the strong response from both our student body and alumni community, with a record 282 students successfully matched with 109 dedicated alumni mentors.
In celebration of this milestone 5th edition, Appreciation Awards were presented to seven alumni who have been mentoring our science students since the programme’s inception.
We look forward to another meaningful cycle of mentorship and fostering strong intergenerational connections within the FoS community.
“We have barely scratched the surface of Timor-Leste’s biodiversity. New discoveries can have profound impacts on conservation and policy-making.”
In August 2022, we led an expedition to Timor-Leste in collaboration with Conservation International and the government of Timor-Leste. The Museum’s herpetologist, Dr CHAN Kin Onn, discovered a new species of bent-toed gecko which was named Cyrtodactylus santana, in reference to the Nino Konis Santana National Park, in which the gecko was discovered.
