Prof Giorgia Pastorin

Head, Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Prof Giorgia Pastorin received her PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2004 from the University of Trieste, Italy. She is a pharmaceutical scientist by training and a registered pharmacist from Italy.  After a postdoctoral research position at the CNRS (the French National Centre for Scientific Research) in France, she joined NUS in 2006 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011, became Assistant Head in 2014 and Deputy Head (Research) in 2016 while directing the Pharmaceutical Innovation and Research Centre in the department. In 2017, she assumed the appointment of Assistant Dean (Research and Development) at the Faculty of Science until June 2024. She is currently Head of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science.

Beyond Dispensing: The Multifaceted Role of Pharmacists in Healthcare

Assoc Prof Lita Chew

Assoc Prof Lita Chew received her pharmacy degree from NUS and obtained her postgraduate studies in medical science (clinical oncology) at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. She completed her fellowship training in pharmacy practice at the University Illinois Chicago, United States. Her contributions to pharmacy have significantly impacted the development of the profession in Singapore. These contributions include: setting up a register for specialist pharmacists, a training and development framework for pharmacist specialists, national pharmacy residency training and reviewing pharmacist and pharmacy technician career paths. She is instrumental in the development and implementation of the National Pharmacy Strategy, a 10-year plan to transform the pharmaceutical landscape in Singapore. Assoc Prof Chew is  passionate in workforce development to improve the safety and quality of care and continues her leadership journey to transform the practice landscape for allied health and the pharmacy community.

Mr Tan Choon Han

Mr Tan Choon Han is a registered pharmacist with over a decade of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has held multiple leadership roles in sales, marketing and operations, successfully launching innovative treatments in the fields of respiratory, immunology and oncology. In his current position, he leads efforts to improve the diagnosis and care of gynaecological cancer patients in Emerging Markets. He also mentors undergraduate students and hosts industry internship programmes.

Pharmacists of the Future, Undergraduates of Today: How Are We Preparing You?

Assoc Prof Doreen Tan

Assoc Prof Doreen Tan is a cardiology specialist pharmacist who has spent over 20 years in geriatrics and cardiology-related work. She purposefully designed the undergraduate integrated Cardiovascular Science and Therapeutics course, introducing changes to the undergraduate syllabus by bringing in blood pressure taking and electrocardiogram hands-on practicals in a bid to cement application and learning. She also led the design of the new NUS Pharmacy undergraduate Pre-Employment Clinical Training Programme for Year 1 to 3 undergraduates and designed SCI-PhI, the new Final Year Project, closely following real-world research and grant exercises. She is faculty advisor for Health Test, Advise and Go! ( TAG), a student-led personalised Heart Risk circuit. She previously headed Khoo Teck Puat Hospital’s Pharmacy Department and crossed over to corporate development as Assistant Director (Value Office) before joining the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science.

Unveiling the Pillars of Pharmacy: The Science and Art of Medication Therapy

Assoc Prof Ho Han Kiat

Assoc Prof Ho Han Kiat, PhD, DABT, is the Dean of Students at NUS and an academic staff of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He received his Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) with First Class Honours, along with the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal and Chalmers Medal as the top graduate. Thereafter, he became one of the pioneer recipients of the A*STAR Overseas Graduate Scholarship and obtained his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Washington, United States.

In 2009, he started his own research programme in NUS, exploring various aspects of liver diseases including the management of drug-induced liver toxicity, liver fibrosis and liver cancer. In recent years, he also interfaced the use of nanomaterials to explore the impact on liver regeneration as well as in nanotoxicology. He has published more than 100 papers in internationally recognised journals and has won multiple university-level teaching excellence awards. He was also recognised for his research through the  Distinguished Alumni Award (2020) for Excellence in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, conferred by the University of Washington. He is the Vice President of the Toxicology Society of Singapore and editorial advisory board member of Biochemical Pharmacology and Current Opinion in Toxicology. He has also been a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology since 2018.

Dr Ong Pei Shi

Dr Ong Pei Shi is a senior lecturer within the pharmacy practice domain in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science. She received her BSc (Pharm) Hons degree from NUS. Following her practice at the Singapore General Hospital, where she was the founding pharmacist, who set up the pharmacist-led anticoagulation service in collaboration with haematologists, she pursued PhD training in NUS and post-doctoral fellowship training in clinical pharmacology at the Weill Cornell Medical College and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, United States. She has also been admitted as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist in the United States since 2009. She is a passionate and versatile educator with expertise to cross teach in both pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences. She is also an active advocate of technology-enhanced education, project-based learning and interprofessional education where she is the pharmacy lead for the Longitudinal Patient Experience Program for medical, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing students.

Dr Chng Hui Ting

Dr Chng Hui Ting is a senior lecturer with the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and a registered pharmacist with the Singapore Pharmacy Council since 2009. She is a dynamic and passionate educator, with the expertise to bridge the teaching of cross-disciplinary pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences as well as interdisciplinary arts and sciences. She is a strong advocate of active and collaborative learning pedagogies, interdisciplinary learning and also holistic education which encompasses student activities, experiential learning and mentorship.

Dr Soong Jie Lin

Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Faculty of Science

Dr Soong Jie Lin is a specialist pharmacist at the Singapore General Hospital. She is trained in critical care medicine, where she makes daily rounds with Intensive Care Unit intensivists to provide optimal pharmaceutical care to the critically ill. She believes that pharmacists can play a major role in optimising medication regimens and improve quality of care for patients; she contributes to multiple efforts to improve medication reconciliation processes and raise awareness of polypharmacy issues and the role of deprescribing within the hospital. She is also a lecturer at the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science.
