This job offers the candidate to work in Singapore's oldest and most established hospital (Singapore General Hospital). There will be guidance and supervision from specialist in the field (Orthopaedics, Chemistry and Microbiology). Project work would include exposure to mechanical testing, chemical analysis, cell culture and animal studies.

Research Assistant

A position for Research Assistant is available in the group of Dr. Gijsbert Grotenbreg. The successful candidate will be a member of this dynamic new laboratory that is located in the recently refurbished Centre for Life Sciences at the National University of Singapore.

The research of the Grotenbreg group focuses on the mechanisms that drive pathogen virulence and the host's immune response. Working at the interface of chemistry, biology and immunology, we create diagnostic tools and small molecule modulators of complex biological systems. This includes the development of novel methods for the identification and retrieval of cells of the immune system, as well as expanding the breadth and scope of protein labeling strategies.

Job description:

  1. Laboratory organization and ordering supplies.
  2. Molecular biology techniques, such as designing and cloning DNA constructs.
  3. Recombinant protein expression and purification by FPLC, HPLC, affinity chromatography or SDS PAGE.
  4. Immunological techniques, such as tissue culture and flow cytometry.

Requirements:

  1. The applicant should have a strong interest in microbiology and immunology.
  2. BSc/MSc in life sciences, immunology, biotechnology or related subjects with at least one year of laboratory experience.
  3. Experience with clinical immunology is an advantage.

R&D Scientist : Applications Development and Customer Support

Fluidigm has an opening for an R&D Scientist, Applications Development and Customer Support. In this position, the successful candidate will work with the R&D Applications team in the development of homogeneous fluorescent assays for gene expression and genotyping applications in an advanced microfluidic format for the Fluidigm BioMark (TM) instrument platform. The candidate will also work closely with Fluidigm's Sales, Technical Support and Marketing teams to provide pre- and post-sales support for regional customers. A team player is essential as this position is expected to have a great degree of overlap with various interdisciplinary groups within the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Chemistry development of real time assays for gene expression and genotyping applications.
  • Perform experiments required for assay development of real time assays, leading to commercial release.
  • Drive reagent sourcing, assay characterization and debugging; conduct design of experiments
  • Provide customer training involving software, hardware, and chemistry.
  • Pre and post sales support in conjunction with Fluidigm's Sales & Marketing, and Technical Support teams.
  • Active liaison role between field and in house groups.
  • Provide support to the Technical Support team in the diagnosis & resolution of field issues
  • Lead collaborative projects with key investigators and customers

Qualifications:

  • Experienced molecular biologist with specific experience with real time PCR assays.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently run experiments; analyze data, interpret results and modify procedures, as necessary, and maintain records of all experiments.
  • Experience in developing and designing procedures for commercial customers
  • Knowledge of statistics
  • MSc or Ph.D (or equivalent by experience) in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry or related fields
  • At least 3 years hands-on research experience

Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Scientist (Genome Remodeling and Reprogramming)

- Perform laboratory research on chromatin organization/epigenetics with special interest in chromatin remodeling and genome reprogramming during early mammalian embryogenesis.
