Chemistry & Applied Chemistry
Medals and Book Prizes

Students studying Chemistry and Applied Chemistry (BSc, BApplSc, BSc (Honours) and BApplSc Honours)) have the opportunity of winning prizes and awards for outstanding academic performances. There are also awards for graduate students.

Undergraduate Student Awards

The current list of prizes and awards specifically aimed at Chemistry and Applied Chemistry majors are:

Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Book Prizes
Awarded to:
The Best Student in Level 1 Chemistry
The Best Student in Level 1 Applied Chemistry

Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Book Prizes
Awarded to:
The Best Student in Level 2 Chemistry
The Best Student in Level 2 Applied Chemistry

GlaxoSmithKline Gold Medals
Awarded to:
The Best Student in Level 3 Chemistry
The Best Student in Level 3 Applied Chemistry

Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Gold Medal
Awarded to the Best Student in Level 4 (Honours) Chemistry

Pfizer Gold Medal
Awarded to the Student with Best Honours Project in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Enzymatic Catalysis or Advanced Analytical Techniques

Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Gold Award
Awarded to the most outstanding graduating student in Applied Chemistry for either the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science or the degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours).

Schering-Plough Gold Medal
Awarded to the best student in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS) in the Department of Chemistry.

Lijen Industrial Development Medal
Awarded to the honours year students with the best academic exercises/projects in each of the disciplines in the Faculty of Science.

Graduate Student Awards

Graduate Students in the Department of Chemistry have the following awards to aim for:

Singapore National Institute of Chemistry Gold Medals
Awarded to:
The Student who has submitted the Most Outstanding MSc thesis
The Student who has submitted the Most Outstanding PhD thesis

Sim Geok Soo Medal
Awarded to Graduating Master of Science in Chemistry by Coursework Student with the best project thesis.

Lim Chin Kuan Book Prize

The Department convenes a committee, chaired by a senior faculty member, to evaluate submitted MSc and PhD theses in any particular year.
