Dr Eric Sun completed his undergraduate study in chemistry at California State University - Chico, and then proceeded to earn a PhD degree in 1979 from the University of Wisconsin - Madison under the supervision of Professor Daniel Rich. He then pursued his postdoctoral research in organic chemistry in the laboratory of Professor Daniel Kemp at MIT.

Dr Sun started his industrial career in 1981 as a Senior Research Chemist with Monsanto Co in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He stayed with Monsanto's pharmaceutical division GD Searle until 1992 when he moved to San Diego, California, to join a drug discovery company Amylin, and later a start-up company Alanex Corp which, through a series of mergers and acquisitions, became a part of Pfizer Inc. He held the position of group leader in medicinal chemistry in Pfizer Global R&D - La Jolla Labs from 2000-2003. During his career in the US, he was involved in drug discovery programs for the treatment of CNS diseases, AIDS, metabolic diseases, and cancer; and his responsibilities span from lead discovery to preclinical development.

Dr. Sun joined S*BIO as Head of Chemistry in 2003. From 2003 to 2006, he led a multi-disciplinary team of medicinal chemists and computational chemists in discovery and development of anti-cancer drugs. His research focus has been in discovery of novel inhibitors of Histone Deacetylases (HDACs) and inhibitors of Protein Kinases which have demonstrated anti-tumor activities.  Since May 2006, he has taken on the role of Senior Scientific Advisor in S*BIO. He has over 40 scientific publications and patents.
