The
Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore launched a major
initiative recently to foster cooperation with the targeted academic
institutions and research centers in this region. As a part of this program, the
inaugural Symposium (Singapore-China Collaborative and Cooperative Chemistry
Symposium, S=C=C=C=C=S) was held in March 2-3, 2002 at NUS.
The
Department of Chemistry is once again hosting a similar one with India called
"Singapore-India Collaborative and Cooperative Chemistry Symposium" in
December 2002. This is the first of a series of Annual Symposia to take place
between the two countries alternatively in form of a partnership program. This
will be used as a platform to develop and sustain our academic and research
relationships, research collaboration, staff and student exchange, joint
workshops, and academic partnership with our Indian counterparts on cultural,
scientific and technological fronts. NUS Chemistry is playing a pivotal role in
training the skilled manpower for the chemical, life science, electronics and
service industries.
The strategic importance of this program to the nation is self-evident.
