UROPS - FAQ
Q1: I had talked to my supervisor and he/she has accepted me to his/her project. But the project is not on the web. What should I do?

A1: Please ask your supervisor to put up the project on the web via Science Staff Intranet, after your supervisor had logged in, go to Undergraduate> UROPS online registration>Supervisor>Project management>Submit project.

Q2: I am a supervisor and has put up my project on the web. I realise that I need to do some changes to the content. How do I go about changing the content?

A2: Please go to Science Staff Intranet, after logging in, go to Undergraduate> UROPS online registration>Supervisor>Project management>update project.

Q3: Does the number of Modular Credits (MC) I earned in a UROPS project contribute to my major requirement?

A3: Please check with your major department on the whether the MC is counted towards major requirement.

A4: Yes

Q5: If I pass/fail the module, will it be counted towards my Cumulative Average Point (CAP)?

A5: Yes

Q6: Is there any format for the report? How many pages do I have to submit?

A6: There is no standard format for the report. However, you may go through your past seniors on how they present the report. Dean's office has no restriction on the number of pages but please check with your department coordinator on department requirement (if any).

Q7: If that's the case, is there any format for the 4-pages abstract (soft copy) to be submitted?

A7: Yes. Students are to follow strictly the format given in the website.

Q8: Do I submit my abstract in .pdf or .doc?

A8: Yes, submit your abstract in .pdf. Students are to convert the file before submission to your department. No other format will be accepted.

Q9: Who do I submit my report and 4-pages abstract (soft copy) to? Can I submit to the Dean's Office directly?

A9: Please submit the report and 4-pages abstract to your department coordinator.

A10: The supervisor will complete the progress report form.

Q12: Can we take UROPS in our Honours year?

A12: We do not restrict students from taking level 3000 UROPS in Honours year, if UROPS is not part of the major requirement for BSc./B.Appl.Sc in your respective majors. However, UROPS should not be mixed together with Honours project, i.e. they must be separate projects and assessed separately.

Q13: If so, can the MCs replace the honours year major course electives?

A13: As electives, level 3000 UROPS do not count towards level 4 requirement, regardless of the year taking.

Q1: When and how do I register for UROPS project?

A1: You will be notified of the registration date when it is nearer to the date via e-mail, and poster found in your department's notice board. You have to do the registration online.

Q2: Can I register for more than one project at any one time?

A2: No, you should NOT register for more than one project. Students are to talk to the supervisor-in-charge of the project before doing the online registration.

Q5: How do I know if I'm accepted/rejected by my supervisor?

A5: You will receive an email notifying you of the acceptance.

Q6: I have talked to my supervisor and he/she has agreed to accept me. I have done an online registration but I've not received any confirmation email. What should I do?

A6: Please check with your supervisor if he has accepted you online. If not, please ask him/her to do so.

Q7: While registering for my modules, there is a section that says SPS module. What is SPS?

A7: SPS is a module taken by students who are in Special Programme in Science (SPS). If you're not in the programme, please select "None".

Q8: Is UROPS counted towards my semester workload of 15MC?

A8: Yes

Q9: If I register an UROPS project in Semester 2, is the module XX2289/XX3289?

A9: All UROPS projects start with XX2288/XX3288 regardless of the semester that you register. XX2289/XX3289 is a continuous module when you are doing an 8MC project.

Q10: Can I register for an 8MC UROPS and do the first 4MC before going on SEP or any other overseas program and continue it after returning?

A10: You should not be applying for an 8MC UROPS if you are intending go on SEP or any other overseas program in the second semester of your project. Students are not allowed to continue their UROPS after returning from an overseas program.

Q11: If I intend to take 2 same level UROPS from the same department in different semesters, can I register the modules as XX2288/XX3288 the first time and XX2289/XX3289 the next time?

A11: It is not encouraged to take 2 same level UROPS project from the same department but you can take XX2288 first in one semester and XX3288 in another semester. XX2289/XX3289 are 8MC UROPS and since you are not taking an 8MC module, you cannot register the project as XX2289/XX3289. If you wish to do the same level of UROPS again, you may do so under another Department (for e.g., LSM3288 for the 1st project and CM3288 for the 2nd project)

Q1: I am currently doing a 4MC project, due for completion soon. Both my supervisor and I would like to extend the project to an 8MC project. What are the procedures?

A1: Your supervisor would need to send an email to Science Dean's Office and provide reasons to support the extension. The deadline to request for extension will be stated in the UROPS website under 'Timeline'. Please check the website at a later date if the information is not reflected now.

Q3: When is the deadline for dropping a module?

A3: The deadline is different for every semester. Please refer to the UROPS website for the update per academic year.

Q4: May I know what is the procedure for dropping my UROPS module?

A4: You need to obtain approval from your supervisor and inform Science Dean's Office via an email from your supervisor.

Q5: Can I drop an 8MC UROPS during the semester that I am completing it?

A5: You are not allowed to drop your 8MC UROPS in the 2nd semester that you are supposed to complete it. Request to drop an 8MC UROPS must be submitted in the first semester that you started it.

Q1: I am graduating in the coming semester, can I still do an UROPS project?

A1: Yes, you may but only a 4MC project.

Q2: Will my graduation be delayed because of the UROPS?

A2: No. Students need to ensure that they are able to complete their graduation requirements on time just like other students.

Q1: I am doing my Industrial Attachment and do not have the time to prepare for NUROPS presentation. Is this presentation compulsory? [OR]

Q2: I've received request from the Dean's Office to prepare an oral presentation or poster presentation. Can I turn down the request?


A1/A2: Students participating UROPS project are also expected to participate in the NUROPS congress presentation. This is part of the fulfilment of the whole module.
