Advanced Placement Credits
The Advanced Placement Credit test assesses the knowledge and ability of students and grants credits to those who do well so that they can be exempted from lower level modules and have the prerequisites to read higher level modules directly. This way, students can graduate in a shorter time.
The decision to award Advanced Placement Credits will be made by the departments after the consideration of (a) student's GCE 'A' Level (or equivalent) qualification or polytechnic results and (b) student's performance in an interview and/or Advanced Placement tests set by the departments.

How Advanced Placement Credits are Awarded
(1) For Polytechnic Diploma Holders
Polytechnic Diploma holders may be granted advanced placement credits in relevant modules for up to a maximum of 40 modular credits (MCs) as follows:
  • *8MCs from the University Level Requirements (one GEM and one Breadth module)
  • *12 MCs from Unrestricted Elective Modules
  • Up to 20MCs from Programme Requirements will be granted based on performance in placement tests set by the department offering the modules
*The granting of 8MCs and 12MCs in (i) and (ii) will be automatic and not subjected to performance in placement tests.

The award of APCs depends solely on the student's performance in APC tests, and not on the student's intended major
(2) For GCE 'A' Level (or equivalent) Qualifications
Students with GCE 'A' Level (or equivalent) qualifications who have obtained good grades may be granted up to 20MCs of advance placement from programme requirements based on performance in placement tests set by the departments.

Eligibility for Advanced Placement
Students who have done sufficiently well in either the relevant subjects at GCE 'A' Levels, or selected modules at Polytechnic Diploma level may apply for advanced placement.

Students who are eligible and have applied for the APC test will be shortlisted and informed via email.
You may refer to the selection criteria for the details.

NOTE: Only those students who have applied and shortlisted for the APC test will be allowed to sit for the APC test.
