Academic Mentorship

The 'Academic Mentorship in Science' scheme is set up to provide guidance to Science undergraduates, to promote intellectual interaction/engagement between faculty members and students, and to foster stronger bonding with our students who will be alumni after they graduate from NUS.

Information for Students

Under the academic mentorship scheme, all Science undergraduates will be assigned with an academic mentor by their respective Home department upon matriculation. Students are encouraged to communicate with their academic mentors. Especially if you face difficulties in coping with your studies, your academic mentors will be there to provide guidance and support, to give you appropriate advice on study methods, time management etc. In addition, your mentors will be able to direct you to the various avenues where help is available.
To find out who your mentor is, you may check with your Home department, or refer to the Science student intranet under 'Academic Mentorship Student Query'. You may email to your mentors to make appointments to meet up with them.
For local undergraduates who are scholarship/award recipients, you may also approach the respective mentors assigned to you apart from your academic mentors if you need advice on your academic pursuits.

Information for Academic Staff Assigned as Mentors

Academic mentors are encouraged to communicate with their mentees regularly and to develop their sense of belonging to the Science Faculty. They should also encourage their mentees to excel in their studies while leading a balanced and enriching life in the Faculty, and to make every effort to help them realise their full potentials in academic pursuit.
Please refer to the Academic Mentorship Guide to understand more on the roles and responsibilities of Academic Mentors. This guide is only available to NUS staff.
