Academic Dismissal

Academic performance in NUS is gauged by the Cumulative Average Point (CAP). To remain in good academic standing, students should maintain a CAP of at least 2.0. This is the minimum CAP required for graduation.

Please note that:
  • If the CAP falls below 2.0 for any one semester, students will be placed on Academic Warning.
  • If the CAP falls between (and including) 1.5 and 2.0 for the second consecutive semester, students will be placed on Academic Probation.
  • If the CAP falls below 1.5 for two consecutive semesters, or remains below 2.0 for three consecutive semesters, the student will be placed on Refused Readmission status and dismissed from the University.
Students may appeal only once against the dismissal. Appeals should be submitted through the Science Dean's Office (Blk S16 level 2) by writing an official request to scilpr@nus.edu.sg or sciyy@nus.edu.sg, within two calendar weeks of the last day of the release of each semester's examination results. Appeals will be considered by the Vice Dean of the faculty on a case-by-case basis before submission to the Registrar's Office for final approval.
