The scholarship enabled Shi Jia to pursue many learning opportunities without burdening her parents financially. These included an exchange programme at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm and the Elsinore Summer Programme with the University of Copenhagen. She gained exposure to diverse perspectives in everyday issues across a myriad of cultures and experiences beyond the confines of a classroom. She also participated in the Youth Research Programme with A*STAR’s Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, which led to an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme in Science (UROPS) biomedical research project. The scholarship enabled her to save on study expenses from her job as a research assistant to pursue a Joint Master of Neuroscience with the Université de Strasbourg, Albert Ludwigs - Universität Freiburg, Universität Basel. She plans to pursue her Ph.D. in the field of neuroscience research.
