Science Focus
Science Focus (SF) programme is jointly organised by the Science Faculty of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Gifted Education Branch of the Ministry of Education (MOE). The programme is sponsored by Shaw Foundation. This qualitatively different programme was launched on 30 May 2000 to complement the Science Research Programme (SRP).
Unlike the SRP which is more research oriented, SF aimed to expose students to understand the discoveries and applications of the scientific world through lectures, group discussions and laboratory work.
The programme is opened to 1st year Junior College science students who have the desire to widen their knowledge beyond the Science and Mathematics syllabuses of the 'A' level curriculum.
In this programme, students can select to attend electives from the wide array of topics to meet the 12-hour electives requirement. The electives would consist of lectures, group discussions, demonstrations and /or workshops.
The series of talks would be conducted in the Faculty of Science by lecturers/scientists of the National University of Singapore and Research Institutes. On the completion of attending at least 12 hours of electives, a Certificate of Participation will be awarded to the students.
