International Biology Olympiad
The 24th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) saw Singapore performing exceedingly well once again with four gold medals and sharing the overall top position with the United States.
Hosted in Bern, Switzerland this year, a total of 241 most brilliant pre-university biology students from 62 countries competed in this stimulating academic competition, from 14 to 21 July. The Singapore delegation was led by Dr NG Ngan Kee from Department of Biological Sciences and Dr Beverly GOH from Natural Sciences and Science Education, NIE.
Representing the nation in IBO this year were Benny CHEONG Yi Loong, Stanley QUEK Tee Kai, John YAP Chun Hian and ZHAO Xing Liang from NUS High School.
In congratulating the winners, Dr Ng said, “Benny, Stanley, John and Xing Liang have brought glory to Singapore in this international competition. Their win is not accidental as they have put in a lot of effort to prepare for this competition and I am very proud and happy of all their achievements.”
