Representing Singapore, Prithvi’s project titled Nanostructured Co3O4, CoO and CoN as High Capacity and Long Life Anodes for Li-ion Batteries examined high performance anodes for lithium ion batteries using cobalt compounds obtained by bulk preparation methods.
Other than the Second Award in the category of Chemistry, which carries a cash prize of US$1,500, Prithvi’s project won him a Special Award and also a First Award cash prize US$4,000 from the American Chemical Society.
Dr Reddy, Senior Research Fellow, said, "I greatly enjoyed working with both Junior College and High School students during my scientific journey with them. All my students are highly motivated in doing basic science research and given proper opportunities they have potential to be the future scientists of the country."
"This would not have been possible without the great efforts of my mentor, Dr Reddy, whose advice and conscientious mentoring helped make my project recognised at both national and international levels. It is only with his help that I have come this far. I am extremely grateful for his efforts and willingness to take on students like me. This experience has opened up new areas of interest within me and has been a truly life-changing experience. I am extremely happy with the awards because they show that the international community recognises the importance and the potential impact of this project," gushed Prithvi when asked about his win.
Our heartiest congratulations to the Singapore team for their achievements!

About the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair
The Intel International Science And Engineering Fair (ISEF) is the world’s largest pre-college science fair. Held annually in the United States of America, only the best 1,600 winners out of approximately 7 million high school students around the globe in local, regional, state and national competitions are invited to participate in this week-long celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
At the event, these young innovators share ideas, showcase cutting-edge research, and compete for more than USD$4 million in awards and scholarships.
