RAG and Flag 2017
RAG, an annual event organised by the National University of Singapore Students' Union, together with Flag Day, showcases student performances to thank donors for their support and generosity. Additionally, it is an Orientation Project for incoming freshmen to get acquainted with, and settle into university life. Flag Day also aims to nurture the spirit of volunteerism in our Science Family.
This year, more than 430 Science students participated in Flag Day on 8 August. They raised $17,435.96 for our adopted beneficiary, the Lions Befriender Service Association (Singapore), a voluntary welfare organisation which cares for seniors and helps them to enjoy meaningful lives. The Science RAG team clinched the Silver award for their performance.
TAN Yun Yu, Year 2 Life Sciences, RAG37 Committee member, said, “RAG was a very enriching journey that I went through with my peers who share the same vision and place where we would like to realise our dreams together. Though the experience was a short one, we forged strong friendships and precious memories.”
Jodi LOK Ling Hui, Year 1 Food Science and Technology, RAG37 dancer, said, “Our dancers went through the ups and downs together with much laughter and support for each other.” She added, “Thank you for being such a warm, welcoming and unique family. Family members are like branches that grow on a tree. We grow in different directions but our roots remain as one.”
LEONG Wei Ling, Year 2 Chemistry, said, “It was nice to see the freshmen’s enthusiasm. The warm smiles and generosity from the public made this event even more special.”
Joanne TOY Yi Hui, Year 4 Food Science and Technology, said, “Although Flag Day was tiring, it was very rewarding. I had opportunities to meet people from different facets of society through flagging.”
