Meridien Junior College visits Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science hosted a visit for 38 students and a teacher from Meridien Junior College (MJC) on 9 October. This outreach event was a platform for the Faculty to generate awareness and interest in Science undergraduate education at NUS amongst prospective students.
The visit started with a Faculty admissions talk by Prof FAN Wai Yip, Assistant Dean, Outreach and Student Life. After the talk, the Department of Biological Sciences’ Dr Joanna COLEMAN, an ecologist and conservation biologist with expertise in urban wildlife, delivered a Masterclass lecture. This enabled the students to experience how a typical lecture is conducted. The lecture, titled “From Jungle to Concrete Jungle” focused on the impacts of urban development on biodiversity, potential solutions to the current biodiversity crisis and other broad-based topics such as conservation and environmental issues.
The students found the talks interesting and went away with a better understanding of our Science curriculum.
