Year in Review 5 We affirmed our standing as a faculty at the forefront of transformative science education and cutting-edge research. The year in review saw various key milestones including the launch of Singapore’s first data science and analytics degree programme, new scholarships, anniversary celebrations and various inaugural initiatives. Institute of Data Science (IDS) The Faculty’s mathematicians, statisticians and computational scientists joined forces with engineers, computer and social scientists to launch the $12 million research centre on 27 May 2016. The IDS is a key pillar of NUS’ Smart Nation Cluster to develop strategic capabilities in data science, analytics, optimisation and cybersecurity to advance the Big Data revolution in Singapore and beyond. It will educate the next generation of data scientists to meet the nation’s needs and conduct data science research that will transform public policy, healthcare, urban mobility, industry and society. 1stIN PROGRAMMES SG NEW ACADEMIC Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics The Faculty will offer a four-year direct Honours programme leading to a B.Sc. in Data Science and Analytics from Academic Year 2016/2017. This interdisciplinary programme integrates knowledge, concepts and applications from mathematics, statistics and computer science. Graduates will be equipped with the ability to develop novel analytical tools for new scientific applications and emerging industry 000 problems. This programme meets the growing demand for data science 6 students each professionals in line with Singapore’s Smart Nation push. academic year Quantitative Reasoning module Bachelor of Science in Statistics, With rapid data proliferation, Specialisation in Data Science the ability to evaluate issues based on quantitative Newly designed modules on high-dimensional information is now a statistical analysis and optimisation for large- critical skill in demand.
