University of California, Los Angeles Summer Sessions
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is home to world-class academic and research programs, and its resources include extensive libraries, athletic facilities, and cultural events.
The UCLA Summer Sessions offers more than 1,000 academic courses in various subject areas to students from all over the world. This offers students a chance to advance their learning by experiencing the academic rigour and excellence that UCLA is known for, with a unique hands-on learning experience. Complete schedule of summer courses and descriptions is available online at UCLA Registrar website every January. For a preview of the summer courses offered in 2017, please refer to the 2017 International Student Catalogue.
Students need to take the courses on a letter-graded basis.
Students are required to enrol in a minimum of 8 units.
With effect from AY2018/2019, students may transfer up to a maximum of 10 Modular Credits (MCs) for each summer programme (takes place between May and July) and up to a maximum of 5 MCs for each winter programme (takes place in December). Please note that when you submit a request for Credits Transfer via NUS Student Information System (NUS SIS), you must ensure that the correct number of MCs to be transferrred is accurate. For instance, if you would like to transfer 10 MCs for a summer school, please request for Credits Transfer for 10 MCs.
Students can map a total of 12 Modular Credits (MCs) from a maximum of 2 overseas summer/winter programmes without having to pay tuition at NUS. Any additional MCs mapped will be subjected to NUS Special Term fees.
Module mapping must be done before programme commencement.
NUS students must:
- Be a full-time Faculty of Science student.
- Have a clean disciplinary record.
- Not intending to graduate at the end of Semester 2.
- National Servicemen who are not called up for In-Camp Training (ICT). Deferment letter will not be provided.

Number of Places
There are 20 places available.
Students do not need to pay NUS Special Term fees. However, students are responsible for the UCLA tuition fee, airfare, accommodation, meals, personal expenses, etc.

Programme Application Procedure and Deadline
To apply, login to Education Records System (EduRec) and submit your application under External Study Type ‘Summer/Winter’.
Applications for 2019 will open in late January/early February. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.

Exclusions to the NUS Student Travel Insurance may apply. Students are to ensure that they have sufficient travel insurance coverage, and may consider purchasing additional travel insurance if required.
