I strongly believe that Pharmacy's strength lies in its blend of scientific, clinical and social skills. Pharmaceutical Science embodies the underlying philosophy of a pharmacy education. This Science remains at the core of Pharmacy and is the framework for the principles required to practice Pharmacy. There is a fine balance that the NUS Pharmacy programme has struck between the core pharmaceutical scientific knowledge and the imperative to prepare students adequately for practice. To understand our patients' needs and doctors' queries requires pharmacists to blend scientific, clinical and and social skills so that our patients' health conditions, the scientific principals of their medications, their understanding of and compliance with the treatment given by their physicians are thoroughly evaluated and outcomes optimised. The complex, varied and integrated knowledge base mixed with experiential training qualifies them to make professional judgements relating to the use of medications. This uniqueness of our Pharmacy programme must be maintained and built upon when our students graduate and go out to practice.
