It was always clear to me that Mathematics was my thing, although I wasn't entirely clear at the point how it would play a part in my eventual career.

Graduating with a BSc(Hons) in Mathematics, I was recruited into the Citibank Management Associate Programme. While working, I managed a MSc (part-time) in Statistics at NUS. Today, I'm the Director of Decision Management, overseeing a crack team of specialists dealing in bleeding-edge customer analytics ranging from advanced statistical modeling and data mining, to business and financial modeling. The schooling in the hard Sciences has indeed been vital to my career success. Logical thinking, problem formation, pure technical and quantitative skills have great utility in the financial industry. In fact, these skills are much sought after and pertinent in almost all industries! I would not hesitate to recommend an education in Science to anyone looking to pursue a successful career in the business world.
