LIEN Wen Sze BSc 1970, BSc(Hons) 1971, PhD 1975
Group Manager, Culinary, Nestle R & D Center Singapore Pte Ltd
LIEN Wen Sze graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Chemistry from
the University of Singapore. She continued to obtain her Ph.D. in Chemistry and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the same
university.
She started her career in the Singapore Institute of Standards & Industrial
Research (SISIR) for 7 years and her last position held was Manager of
Analytical & Consultancy Services. She joined Nestle R&D Centre
Singapore Pte Ltd in 1982, first as the Laboratory Manager in charge of
Instrumental analytical laboratories to support in-house research projects and
development of new analytical methods, before rising to the position of Culinary
Support Manager. In this role, she led a team of professionals to create and
industrialize new culinary products for Nestle group of companies in the Asia
Pacific region covering 14 different countries. Her last 4 years were spent
overseas in the Nestle R&D Centre Shanghai Pte Ltd as Head of Culinary
Products & Consumer Practices starting up the R&D Centre in Shanghai
from scratch; leading a team of technologists and chefs to develop culinary
products for retail and food services consumers in Greater China Region. After
this exciting stint, she is currently the Group Manager, Culinary, of Nestle
R&D Centre Singapore Pte Ltd.
Dr LIEN Wen Sze is a fellow of the Singapore National Institute Chemistry and
Royal Society of Chemistry & Chartered Chemists (UK). She also served as a
council member in several SIFST councils. She was an organizing committee member
of SIFST events, such as the Food Microbiology symposium and the 7th World
Congress of Food Science & Technology, and sat on the Food Product Award
Committee.
She has contributed greatly to food science education and training through
aspects, such as being the supervisor of post-graduate students from various
Chinese universities (2001 to 2005), the Honorary Professor of East China
University of Science and Technology in Shanghai (2002 to date) and Advisory
board member of Singapore Temasek Polytechnic, School of Applied Sciences (prior
to 2001). Her other professional involvements include being the member of the
International Life Sciences Institute (USA) and Advisor of functional food
research program (prior to 2001).
