TAN Khoon Hui Johnny, BSc 1982, was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Service Award on 10 November 2009 at the University Cultural Centre.

Gwynne Shimin Lim, our graduate and current postgraduate student, has won a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a PhD in Science, Technology and Engineering at a university in the USA. This is only the second time that a Singaporean has been awarded a Fulbright. Only 40 scholarships are awarded each year. Please read full annoucement in the NUS Biodiversity blog.

Sirichai, who received a 1st class Honours in Pure and Applied Mathematics, is now a Darby Fellow in Applied Mathematics, Lincoln College, and a Postdoctoral Researcher in Astrophysics at University of Oxford.

We mourn the passing of Emeritus Professor Kiang Ai Kim, eminent Scientist, dear friends and colleague, and beloved professor. He was awarded a Distinguished Science Alumni Award in 2004.

Hee Jug, BSc(Hons) in Mathematics, has been appointed chief executive officer of the new Jurong General Hospital, to be completed in 2014. Hee Jug, who began his hospital career as operations executive at Changi General Hospital in 1993, leaves Singapore General Hospital as chief operations officer and group Chief procurement officer of the SingHealth Group. Hee Jug holds an MBA and a MPH from the Anderson School, University of California, Los Angeles, USA. He was awarded an Outstanding Science Alumni Award in 2007.

Apr 09 -- Meng Chwan's article in High Energy Physics - Theory, Jul 08, 'Five-Branes in M-Theory and a Two-Dimensional Geometric Langlands Duality' was cited by prominent Fields Medalist Edward Witten in his lastest article.  Wrote Meng Chwan to Provost and former Dean Professor Tan Eng Chye, "Going through his paper, I see that he has adapted several of my arguments into his own.  I couldn't ask for a bigger compliment than this."

Meng Chwan is now on an NUS Overseas Postdoctorial Fellowship with Anton Kapustin in California Institute of Technology (Caltech).  He will be returning to take up the position of Assistant Professorship in the Department of Physics in Sep 09.

Yin Bun came to NUS after completing a PhD in Paediatrics at University of Hong Kong.

He has returned to Singapore to be principal biostatistician at the Singapore Clinical Research Institute, and take up a full professorship at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. Previously he was a senior lecturer, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

May 09 -- Pei-Fen, First Class Honours in Statistics and Saw Medal Winner, has obtained a PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison and has been appointed research assistant professor at University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill.
