Research
Introduction

NUS is a strongly research-based university. The Science Faculty is one of the most research-active faculties in NUS, contributing close to 40% of the total number of publications in international Science Citation Index journals. Research is all about people, ideas and 'tools'.
People
All of academic staff are actively involved in research. They are supported by postgraduates and research personnel from eight departments. They work across the whole spectrum of scientific activities ranging from basic to applied research, and many have been recognized internationally for their contributions to research and development. We are also pleased to note that the Science Faculty academic staff have won the most number of National Science Awards since 1990.
Ideas
In recent years, the faculty has recently identified three research focus areas - nanoscale science, science of information and life sciences - for special manpower and funding support. The following links to the departments will attest the research ideas generated and actively pursued in the faculty.
Tools
The faculty has invested heavily in state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that our researchers are competitive in the international arena. 11 Research Centers have been formed to promote interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. Many staff are involved in R&D collaborations with local research institutes, industries and statutory boards. In the last year, they have attracted $20 million external funding. This is expected to increase in the future.
