The NUS Faculty of Science is a premier institution in the research of mathematics and sciences.
Members in the Faculty make discoveries every day and every year, numerous papers are published in world-renowned journals.
We feel that it is important to share some of the best research with the public and more importantly, with our future, the
students in the secondary school and JCs. In particular, we will like to make these exciting developments in research palatable and relevant to what they are already learning in schools. It is in this spirit that we are proposing Maths & Science UPDATEs, a series of workshops targeted at upper secondary and JC teachers. |
| |
Through Maths & Science UPDATEs, we also wish to contribute to a ‘Learning Nation’ culture that promotes lifelong continual learning
in citizens. We hope to assist teachers to keep current with more sophisticated and progressive curriculum content, appreciate an
increasingly multidisciplinary environment and comprehend fast-changing scientific advancements so that their lessons for students
remain relevant and effective. |
| |
| Mission |
| 1. |
|
To conduct curriculum-relevant science workshops which link up current research to actual classroom activities, thereby helping
teachers and students see their learning as relevant to research and vice-versa. |
| |
|
|
| 2. |
|
To help teachers keep current in recent science and technology developments. |
| |
| Targets |
We are intending to run a series of 4 workshops this year. Topics can be specific to subject areas or they can be multidisciplinary
in nature. A typical workshop will consist of one or two lectures by the principal investigators, with research lab visits and finally
lab activities suitable for secondary and JC levels. |
| |
| Recognition |
Teachers can be recognized for attending the workshops in professional training hours. Certificates of Participation will be awarded. |
| |
| Costs |
* Costs can be borne by professional development funds from the Ministry of Education (MOE) or from the school. * differs from course to course |
